The FIFA 11+ program has been shown to reduce overall leg injuries by 40%.

The FIFA 11+ Injury Prevention Program has been studied both at the high school and professional level with sports like soccer and others which are plagued by leg injuries.

This program boasts some incredible results when performed correctly and consistently.

If you coach a sport that involves cutting, changing direction, sprinting etc, this program just may be a wonderful aid to keeping your players on the field.

The Particulars

The program was specifically shown to reduce injuries in the hamstrings by 60%, the hip & groin by 41%, the knee by 48% and the ankle by 32% with an overall injury prevention of about 40%.

Some of the key components were that the program was performed 2x per week and was coach-implemented from a coach who was taught by a Physical Therapist trained in the program.

Implementation

While the program has been well studied, it does not necessarily mean that a coach cannot adjust or customize the program to better fit their situation or athletes.

There are some specific exercises in the conditioning section (part 2) which have been individually studied.

For example the "Nordic Hamstring" exercise itself has been shown to reduce hamstring injuries by 40-70% in elite soccer players.

The "Copenhagen" exercise has been shown to reduce groin injuries by 41% itself.

So coaches can work with a PT or other trained person to customize the program if they see the need to reduce the program or if they want to focus on a particular injury that is more common to their players or sport.
