Frequently Asked

Questions

Top Questions Answered:

  • Do you take Insurance?

No way. And it's to YOUR benefit that we don't. Read my blog HERE to find out how you may be paying more out of your pocket by going within your network for PT and how we are better than insurance PT.

We will provide you with a "superbill" at the end of our services. What this will do is allow you to count our services toward your deductible AND will allow the potential for your insurance to cover 50-80% of your costs. This depends on your insurance.

*If you have Medicare, please give us a call or schedule a free consult through the "Contact" tab for an explanation of our limits with Medicare.

  • Do I need a physician's order to begin?

You do not need an order to begin with us. Direct Access for physical therapy in Michigan allows individuals to be seen directly by a physical therapist for 21 days or 10 visits prior to needing a referral from a physician. If you need help finding a physician, go to our "resources" page at the very bottom of our website.

  • What are your business/treatment hours?

We normally see patients between 8-5 either in our office or in a client's home, but we are flexible! Do you need an appointment before work? No problem. Do you need a visit after dinner? We can accommodate that, too. When you choose us, you will see that we highly value your time.

  • Where is your main office?

Our main office is located at 2930 W. Main St (suite #1) Kalamazoo, MI 49006. We are located inside of Endurance Fitness & Wellness Gym.

  • What is cash-based PT vs insurance-based?

Going through your in-network insurance for PT may not be as beneficial as you may think. You are still responsible for your co-pay or co-insurance and will be paying out of pocket until your deductible is met.

With cash-based, you can still submit your therapy visits to your insurance so that the payments can be counted toward your deductible. Also, we can help you submit for reimbursement for an out-of-network claim. On top of that, you will receive more 1-on-1, higher quality care, thereby reducing your total number of visits needed.

Here is an example. Most cash-based PT averages 8 visits per client episode, whereas outpatient clinics are about 12. Cash-based charges $100-$150/visit, whereas outpatient clinics charge insurance an avg $250/visit. If your deductible hasn't been met, you could be saving over $2,000 by going cash-based AND receiving all the conveniences of mobile PT!

  • Why choose Strength & Shield?

We at Strength & Shield offer unique services that you will not see with other agencies:

    • Home exercise programs like you've likely never seen before. You can access your exercises through an app and work right along with the videos created for you. For more, watch this short video.
    • You will only see a doctor of Physical Therapy. And we work with each client one-on-one for 60 minutes, maintaining the same therapist with each client.
    • We place a high value on educating our patients rather than making them dependent on us. You will learn about your condition and how to manage it yourself.
    • We offer unique PT packages tailored to fit a variety of needs. See the Our Services page.
    • We own and run this business with a distinctly Christian worldview. That means we highly regard values such as integrity, diligence and excellence in all that we do for you. For more, go to the About page.
  • What is the method of payment?

Normally, payments are due at the time of service. We can work with payment plans as well. We utilize a simple & automatic online payment method. We are happy to accept cash or check as well.

  • What Areas Do You Serve for Mobile?

We currently are serving the counties of Kalamazoo, (Eastern) Van Buren and St Joseph in Southwest Michigan. If you are just outside of these counties, send us an email and ask if we can accommodate you.

    By city: Galesburg - Kalamazoo - Marcellus - Mattawan - Paw Paw - Plainwell - Portage - Richland - Schoolcraft - Scotts - Three Rivers - Vicksburg.

  • What is a Good Faith Estimate?

This is a new law (yay, more federal laws!) put into place on Jan 1, 2022 because the government felt they needed more tenticles in healthcare. Here is the disclaimer/lawyer jargin you will need to sign when you begin with any PT or other healthcare service, now. Enjoy!

    Disclaimer

This Good Faith Estimate shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs for an item or service. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created, and does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment.

If you are billed for more than this Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

Throughout your treatment, the provider may recommend additional items or services as part of your treatment that are not reflected in this estimate. These would need to be scheduled separately with your consent and the understanding that any additional service costs are in addition to the Good Faith Estimate.

If your needs change during treatment, your provider should supply a new, updated Good Faith Estimate to reflect the changes to treatment, and the accompanying cost changes.

You may contact the health care provider or facility listed to let them know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate. You can ask them to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill, or ask if there is financial assistance available.

The Good Faith Estimate is not a contract between provider and client and does not obligate or require the client to obtain any of the listed services from the provider.

You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill.

There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on this Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with the health care provider or facility, you will have to pay the higher amount.

To learn more and get a form to start the process, go to www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call HHS at (800) 985-3059.
